The main body of this flute is made from a very special type of wood. Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle.
As the tree ages, naturally occurring fungi feed on the heartwood and deposit dark pigments, leaving the tiger striping you see in this flute. Had the tree been harvested any later then it would have been found rotten but if it is processed at the right time, like this one was, then you are left with a completely stable timber with this rare figure. Myrtle is prized by instrument makers for its acoustic resonance as much as its beautiful grain.
This flute features accents in Huon Pine, fiddleback Blackwood and Lace Sheoak.
Tuned to F 432Hz, it features a rich and resonant voice.
